I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY!! A SOLUTION FOR THE PAYMENT THING
Want less conflict? Want less hate towards canvas? Ever get annoyed about people saying or you getting a pop-up to pay for that pro feature?
Well what if in the system (they also make it so you can NOT change it again…) WHENEVER IT IS YOUR B-DAY 🎂… YOU GET THAT WHOLE DAY, PRO FREE, everything is free on that day! (extension wise…)
You get pro features unlocked and everything, that is if you go to school or go on canvas on your b-day, (trust me it, i't’ll be worth it!)
(kinda like trial but) 1 free unlocked day, "THE USER’S BIRTHDAY!”. Also most schools block time changing, and you can block birthday changing so it won’t be abused!

so major concern is what happens after that one day? the extra themed deleted? special to-do list visuals done? planned assignments gone?

make a new database saver, so make a specialized theme with some tag, only if the person’s birthday is on that day they can access/edit/whatever u want. requires: config on LOTS of stuff, new database field. most likely costs a bit extra.
yeah, i guess. maybe make it for like 3-ish days, and even you could do this: user makes 1 theme on birthday. next day, they can access. no edit or whatever u want but they can access. if they plan stuff, they can view ONLY the stuff they planned. issue: people plan EVERYTHING, make a TON of themes in that one day, and “re-polish” em up every year.
you’d need 3-5 EXTRA database fields/tables/etc. at best to implement this, which would need lots of config, and its not the best idea to leave EXISTING ACCOUNTS (e.g. birthdate) as nil until the user updates the birthday.
so, this sounds like a great idea, needs lot of config. that’s only the easy stuff, you’d need to implement features on your API, database, prompt the user via HTML, check, get, set requests in database, and much more. maybe you can use a DIFFERENT, free-ish database to handle a FEW of these tables, and let the main one handle all, but i would NOT recommend. excited to see how this can go @Support look-into and give ideas/solutions. | @Linix Axel @-/~/Peanut_Butter\~\- looking forward for ideas/comprimises.

Maybe let them make one theme that stays and no other themes that year, and they get every pro featers for their b-day week, then it disappears, but they can’t make more than one theme that will last.

botting. people botting accounts, blah blah blah. #2 covers some of it.
people just make new accounts. no restrictions.
you can block the IP, but what if you block a entire school’s ip?
block the device via the physical ID, 95% of laptops/chromebooks/ipads used in schools are passed down and STAY at the same school for generally 3-5 years. may not be worth it.
can be auto-detected if configured right.
the devs have previously stated that they are looking into new databases/storage of data, so this will require extra for EVERY user, and #2 may require EVEN MORE. they may have already fixed, but this will NOT be cheap. for every user, 1-2, if #2 gets implemented, around 5 extra info stored for EACH user.
i would love to see this, since i dont want to pay for bettercampus, i like it, but not wanting to pay.
and… most likely more issues! updating the database store for ALL USERS, EVERY SINGLE ACCOUNT. and also, bettercampus account is >13 ONLY, so some people can’t use it.
account sharing can be a problem! someone uses 1 account, but 2 people use it, what happens? someone makes a account with the date on this thing, boom.
if i say #2 or #3 or smth, it means im referring to like the issue number 2, so 2 is new accounts no restrictions, 3 is database stuff, etc.
